There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Prov. 14:12.

Some people have the false impression that one must go to the world to find happiness and personal fulfillment; that one can hardly be expected to find these things within the Christian faith. Where do people get the idea that riches, worldly success, and fame bring happiness and fulfillment? A man may spread his table with the finest foods and drinks, then develop ulcers and dyspepsia so that he cannot enjoy them. A man may build himself a mansion of marble, cover the walls with costly paintings, plant beautiful gardens, and then go blind. The only true condition of achieving fulfillment is that we be in a position to enjoy what life has to offer. A mean man cannot be happy. A selfish man cannot be a fulfilled man. An immoral man cannot experience inner freedom and peace. One must possess the right values.

In life, if you want to buy hay and stubble, what does it cost? It costs money. That is the law. If you choose to be dishonest, you must give up the idea of being an honest man. If you choose to be impure, then you must give up the idea of being morally trustworthy. If you choose evil, you must surrender righteousness. "Each ounce of dross costs its ounce of gold."

Some years ago, a fire destroyed a famous night club. The newspaper told the story of a young woman who, with her friends, had left the night club in protest against a suggestive performance. She was hardly out of the building when it was turned into a blazing inferno.

Every man's work shall be tested as by fire. It is too bad when a person invested by God with a million-dollar capital does only a hundred-dollar-a-year business. Under God, the possibilities are incomparable and unlimited.
